USA TODAY published two articles by 24/7 Wall Street that took a deep dive into U.S. Census data to understand current national and state patterns of marriage and divorce. The author provides the figure that each year, Americans file over 1 million divorce petitions. Yet, the rate of divorce in 2017 had dropped to 2.9 divorces of every 1,000 persons.
The author believes that the declining divorce rate is tied to a declining marriage rate. That reason, however, really does not matter when it is your own divorce that is causing monumental changes to your world.

As compared to a national percentage of 48.2, 53.1 percent of people 15 or older in Nebraska are married. This places Nebraska at number four of all states for the percentage of people married, after Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Interestingly, neighboring Iowa and Kanas follow at number five and six, suggesting a bit of a regional trend.
In addition, the Cornhusker State ranks 23rd lowest in its divorce rate of 3.0 per 1,000 residents and 19th lowest in its marriage rate of 6.3 per 1,000.
24/7 Wall Street also identified the city in each state with the highest percentage of divorced residents. In Nebraska, this city is comfortable, suburban Ralston, a city of about 6,000 people in Douglas County. Ralston has a divorced population of 16.1 percent and a married population of 48.3 percent, as compared to the state rate of 53.1 percent.
